What is a nursing home?
Nursing homes (also known as skilled nursing facilities, skilled nursing units,
or rest homes) are for seniors who require constant medical care and need significant
assistance with the activities of daily living.
What are they like?
There are over 16,000 nursing homes in the United States, and each has its own unique
style and atmosphere. One thing that has been becoming more common in recent years,
however, is that many of them have made efforts to make their communities more home-like
rather than hospital-like.
Our old preconceptions of nursing homes are quickly becoming outdated, and we encourage
